Not sure if it has any other issues, since it has been so long since I have had it running. I did put a good battery in it last year, and it turned on, lights and display turned on, but found that it has a bad starter, so not running at this time. They outfitted their newly christened “BW110” with an LED ATC250R rectangular headlight, ATC200X front fender, stiffer suspension, Yoshimura exhaust, BBR skid plates and reinforced cradle, Throttle Jockeys seat cover, and a custom wrap from Jamie at R Nyne Designs, which harks back to the Honda ATC trikes of the 1980s. Of course, this is A&J Cycles we’re talking about - builders of some of country’s sweetest modern Triumph customs and flat trackers - so they weren’t satisfied with just the kit. The kit included a new swingarm, triple trees, wheels, disc brake conversion, and an offset sprocket. “Saw BVC Trikes post that they were developing the kit and had to have one.” Recently, the CRF110 kit caught the eye of Brian Ballard at New York’s A&J Cycles, who thought it would make the perfect pit bike for the flat track races - and for his son to ride. However, if you’re hankering for some big wheel fun, the good folks at BVC Trikes have developed Big Wheel kits for a large range of modern dirt bikes (as well as Trike kits!). Key Considerations for Manufacturing With PEEK PEEK is also biodegradation-resistant and can survive extreme natural conditions, like intense environments and temperatures. UL 94 V-0 flammability rating: (0.059″ thickness). ![]() Some other mechanical specifications for pure, unfilled PEEK include: This makes PEEK an excellent choice for manufacturing methods that require heating and melting, like injection molding. PEEK also releases very low smoke and toxic gas emissions when exposed to fire, reducing hazards when near flame or extreme heat. PEEK was developed as a high-heat-resistant plastic and only melts at an extremely high temperature. Properties and Mechanical Specifications of PEEK Carbon-filled PEEK also has more thermal conductivity, increasing a part’s lifespan and performance. Carbon-filled PEEK has increased compressive strength, which dramatically lowers its expansion rate and supports better wear-resistance and load-carrying capabilities. One disadvantage of glass-filled PEEK is its tendency to wear down mating parts. Glass-filled PEEK offers more stiffness than unfilled PEEK and is often used in the oil and gas industries to ward off poor reactions to steam, chemicals, and high temperatures. Pure, unfilled PEEK is quite durable on its own, but PEEK is also often reinforced with carbon or glass fibers to become less brittle. Across manufacturing methods, PEEK offers repeatability and accuracy component-to-component and can produce parts with tight tolerances. PEEK can also be manufactured via CNC machining. PEEK can be processed using injection molding or additive manufacturing, where its high melting point permits faster feeds and speeds. Since PEEK is physically light yet highly resistant to corrosive substances, it is well-suited for a variety of manufacturing methods. Along with being tough, PEEK is lightweight and easy to manufacture. PEEK is also creep-resistant, meaning it will retain its shape in harsh environments and high temperatures, and when placed under mechanical stress. ![]() This material boasts incredible electrical resistance along with heat resistance, wear resistance, and fatigue resistance. PEEK is a polymer created by step-growth polymerization, in which the polymer chain doubles with each polymerization step. To make the most out of this versatile and adaptable material, engineers and product teams should familiarize themselves with the properties, characteristics, and limitations of PEEK. In fact, PEEK is one of the most commonly manufactured polyaryletherketones (or PAEKs) for large-scale production runs. ![]() Over the past 50 years, PEEK has developed into one of the most widely used materials for high-performance applications. The figured world of the mathematics classroom provides space for characters to “author themselves” within this world. Because we select different activities and apply differing significance to these activities, every mathematics classroom is unique and defines the figured world differently. The other acts mentioned, such as solving problems and playing maths games, may be similarly significant and contribute to define the figured world. This act comes with a number of invented, explicit, and widely recognised rules such as individual and independent work done in a silent and timed setting and using pen and paper (or a computer). To elaborate on just one example, the act of sitting a mathematics test is assigned high significance when it leads to a report grade. In line with the theory of figured worlds, we may then consider the significance assigned to these various acts. This is a complex world, made up of a variety of acts we might see performed, such as sitting tests, solving real world mathematics problems, doing exercises in a mathematics book, or playing maths games. Within this “world”, the characters are teachers and students-in this case, mathematics students. ![]() Following this idea, it is useful to think about the primary school mathematics classroom as being a figured world. For the purpose of this article, I use the theory of figured worlds and positional identity (Holland et al., 1998), which captures this social construction of identity and considers the way identity is drawn from and contributes to the context-that is, figured world.Ī figured world is a “socially and culturally constructed realm of interpretation in which particular characters and actors are recognised, significance is assigned to certain acts, and particular outcomes are valued over others” (Holland et al., 1998, p. This means that an individual’s relationship with mathematics is very much social, and it depends on the context and audience, rather than being something that resides inside of themselves. The definition given in the Encyclopedia of Mathematics Education states that mathematics learner identity is “a socially produced way of being, as enacted and recognised in relation to learning mathematics” (Darragh & Radovic, 2018, p. The research literature in mathematics education draws on many different ways to understand identity, and their definitions are sometimes contradictory (Darragh, 2016). To conclude, I invite the reader to reflect on other maths games (and activities) and similarly apply an identity lens to consider their practice in the classroom. I use the theoretical concepts of figured worlds and positional identities to help explain how these games may affect students’ mathematics learner identity. In this article I present the concept of identity and then discuss two well-known maths games played in primary school classrooms. An understanding of this relationship may help to explain issues such as lack of engagement in mathematics or choosing not to continue studying the subject (Black et al., 2010 Jaremus et al., 2019). This body of research moves beyond the investigation of how best to learn or teach mathematics and considers the bigger picture of an individual’s relationship with the subject of mathematics-that is, their mathematics identity. But how often do we stop to consider what messages these games send about what it means to be a learner of mathematics, and about mathematics itself? This question speaks to the concept of learner identity, which has become increasingly discussed over the past two decades in the research literature related to learning and teaching mathematics (Darragh, 2016 Graven & Heyd-Metzuyanim, 2019). The Figure it Out series of books 1 is peppered with maths games, and websites such as deliver maths games directly to children. ![]() We learn games from one another, and we trawl the internet for more as we seek ways to make mathematics fun and engaging for learners. ![]() We grow our games repertoire from our own experiences of schooling and from initial teacher education. Many teachers in Aotearoa New Zealand play maths games in their classrooms. I suggest that some games may be detrimental to the performance of a positive learner identity, while others may be transformative. In this article I discuss the concept of “mathematics learner identity” and use it as a lens to consider two popular maths games played in primary classrooms in Aotearoa New Zealand. Maths games are fun and engaging, but what messages do these games send to the students in our classrooms? During mathematics lessons children learn more than just mathematics content they also come to understand what it means to be a learner of mathematics.
